I have a lot on my plate this month, but when I saw the “Comments for a Cause” idea on A Beautiful Ruckus, I thought, what’s one more? The concept for Comments for a Cause was started by Beth Ann at It’s Just Life. The big idea, for each comment left on the blog through-out the month, a set amount of money is donated to a cause or organization. I’m totally on love with this idea. Not only do I get to bring attention to some great organizations, it will hopefully create a greater sense of community on the blog.
So, here’s how it’s going to work: for each qualifying comment left through-out the month of September, I will donate $0.25 to Charlie’s House. Plain and simple, right?
Charlie was a local 2-year-old boy (and triplet) who was killed in 2007 when he pulled over a dresser on top of himself. His parents created Charlie’s House to help educate others about child safety around the home. Their site is full of great information and checklists that are very thorough and include things I never would have thought about.
Charlie’s House is currently raising funds to build a demonstration house that will provide hands-on demonstrations and resources for child safety. Safety House will be a part of a larger Safety Street, a simulated street front to provide families with a fun and interactive learning environment on how to prevent common household accidents.
What is a qualifying comment, you ask? Well, the comment must be made on an actual blog post, not Facebook, Twitter or other social media outlet. Comments on giveaways don’t count. While giveaways bring in new readers, not all of them stick around. Part of the fun of this project is getting to know one another better. Spam comments don’t count either. There is no way I can afford to pay for every comment promoting potions, pills or purses.
